Ride from work at EveryTrail

Back on Track

I have been very bad this year as it comes to riding my bike to work. Although I blame the weather I also blame myself. This week I have experienced some technical difficulties so I have rode home from work but not there. Today I found a new APP for my iPhone that helps me to calculate trips on my bike. I hope to utilize it on this blog also.

As of right now I vow to get back on track. I will ride to and from work at least 80% of the time thru October.

One last time for Olde Lang Syne

While celebrating Christmas with my family my oldest brother ask me if I was still riding my bike to work. When I explained it was too cold or raining every day since the first week of November he called me a "wuss". The next day the sun came out and the clouds departed just brief enough for a window of opportunity to open and allow me one more time to ride my bike to work in 2008.

From May until November I rode my bike to work over 90% of the time. I have made a resolution to ride at least 80% of the days this year. I realize I must contend with the weather but it is what I need to do for myself.

I hope you and yours have a wonderful New Year in 2009.

Crossing that Bridge

With the days I will be able to ride my bike this year getting smaller as the wind gets colder I finally completed a goal that I have thought about for many months. There were many reasons that kept me from this goal. I thought it would be difficult, I knew that it was dangerous, and I just didn't have any reason to do it. Yesterday I needed to run an errand to Louisville's Waterfront Park so I dressed warmly, put on my helmet and crossed the Clark Memorial Bridge.
It was physically a lot easier than I thought it would be, psychologically it was about as hard as I thought it would be. You just have to put the speeding cars out of your mind. It is a little harder with a dump truck but you get use to it. All and all it was a good experience and I can't wait to do it again in the spring.

RIDE ON!

Riding my Bike to Work

Last week I took the plunge and decided that I needed to ride a bike to work from now on. With gas prices so high it is only logical that I seek out other modes of transportation. The bus route to and from work is a possibility but it would not save me money since I only drive about four miles to work everyday. I considered a motor scooter but I am a grown man. I purchased a bike from craigslist.com and for only $25 now have new transportation to work.

The week started out fine although when I do get home I am ready for bed. My legs are a little wobbly when I first get on right after working eleven hours mostly on my feet but it gets better as I ride. On Wednesday I actually tried a leisurely route through old Clarksville to possibly find a better route but while it is kind of a nicer ride it does turn out to be a couple of miles farther.

The week went on seemingly smoothly until I went out to find a flat tire on Saturday morning. I received a ride home from a friend and drove back Saturday night and took my bike home on the back of my car Sunday morning.

All in all it was a good week. I rode my bike to work six out of seven days (11 out of 14 trips) I got a lot of extra exercise and I saved some money in gas. Next week I am going for a full week.

Total miles Approx. 55
